Cost calculation is a crucial part of the construction planning process, and we want to be sure that the cost will remain on track even after occurred delays or any unpredicted cases (such as COVID 19). ALICE Cost Calculation help users to keep eye on their critical resources such as expensive equipment and materials, and make a data-driven decision on time.
In this article, you will find a detailed description of Labor Cost Calculation during the Manage phase.
Labor will incur costs based on the hour works, calendar time, and cost at the time of scheduling. For example, given the following schedule, where the user reschedules at hour 4:
If each task uses one crew and that crew works only during the even hours, the utilization chart will look like this:
With a calendar, our actual utilization of crews looks like this:
The crew works 3 hours total prior to reschedule and 3 hours after reschedule. So the total direct cost is (3 x old crew cost) + (3 x new crew cost) = Total Crew Cost
If each task uses one crew and that crew works only during the even hours, the utilization chart will look like this:
Note that the idle cost of this construction is actually zero because the “waiting time” occurs when the calendar is not active (see idle time graph from equipment). If the calendar is not active, idle time is not incurred.
An example with idle time:
